LIBRARY

The college library houses a collection of approximately 20,000 books. It also subscribes to various magazines and journals covering multiple subjects and languages. The library operates under the administrative control of the Principal and is managed by a senior Professor, assisted by qualified librarians.

LIBRARY RULES

General Information-

 1. The library is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on all working days of the college.

 2. The last period of every working day is reserved for library office work. During this time, no books will be issued or

      returned.

 3. Books cannot be taken out of the library unless they have been properly recorded in the issue register and the

      entry is attested by the borrower.

 4. Borrowers must check the condition of books before borrowing. Any damage discovered later will be considered

      the responsibility of the borrower.

 5. Books must be returned within the stipulated period. (Refer to Rule 25 for details.)

 6. If the due date for returning a book falls on an authorized holiday, it can be returned on the next working day when

      the library reopens.

 7. All books belong to the library. Borrowers must return them before the college closes for long vacations, as per the

      notified return date.

 8. Anyone in possession of a library book must return it to the library upon receiving a requisition notice from the

      librarian.

 9. Books taken out of the library must be returned to the Librarian or the Assistant Librarian at the counter.

 10. Writing marginal notes, making markings, removing pages, or defacing books in any manner is strictly

       prohibited. If a book is found damaged, the borrower will be required to replace it.

 11. The librarian will report to the Principal the name of any borrower responsible for improper use of library books.

 12. While there are generally no restrictions on using library books, the Principal has the authority to limit or suspend

       the issuance of certain books to individuals or groups of borrowers.

 13. A borrower with overdue books or outstanding charges will not be permitted to borrow additional books. Library

       deposit refunds will also be withheld until dues are cleared.

 14. If a borrower keeps a library book beyond the allowed period, no additional books will be issued until the overdue

        book is returned. In extreme cases, the borrower’s library privileges may be revoked.

 15. All individuals inside the library or its vicinity must maintain strict silence.

       The librarian is responsible for ensuring that silence is observed. Any breach of this rule will be reported to the  

       Principal. Teaching staff members are encouraged to support and enforce this rule. Talking is prohibited inside

       the library, except when necessary for library-related transactions.

 16. The library premises should only be used for reading or consulting books and periodicals. Any other use is

        prohibited.

 17. Spitting, smoking, sleeping inside the library, or putting one’s legs on the furniture is strictly forbidden.

 18. Any uncivil behavior by a borrower, library staff, or unauthorized persons inside the library must be reported

        immediately to the Principal.

 19. Unauthorized individuals who forcefully enter the library may be expelled by the library staff.

 20. Only teaching staff and ministerial staff are allowed beyond the library counter. Others may enter only with

         special permission from the Principal.

 21. Maximum Number of Books Issued per Category: If a book consists of multiple volumes, all volumes will be

       considered a single book.

 22. Borrowed books may be re-issued to the same borrower if no other reader requests them. Before re-issue, the

        book must be presented to the librarian for necessary entry in the register.

23.

 (a) Books of reference, maps, textbooks, university calendars, current issues of periodicals, course materials, and

         rare books shall not be issued for home use without special permission from the Principal.

 (b) Current issues of periodicals shall not be issued for home use before the arrival of their next issue.

 24. Teaching staff, ministerial staff, and other authorized personnel may borrow books from the library by signing

         the issue register or slip, which will be provided at the beginning of each session.

 25. Borrowing duration: Students: 15 days, Staff members: 1 month

 26. If a book is lost, damaged, or defaced by the borrower, it must be replaced. If the book belongs to a set or series

        and individual volumes cannot be obtained separately, the borrower must replace the entire set. For rare and

        irreplaceable books, the borrower must pay up to double the current catalog price of the book.

 27. If the price of the lost book cannot be determined, the borrower must pay compensation as decided by the

        Principal.

 28. Borrowers are expected to follow library rules. Ignorance of the rules will not be accepted as an excuse for

        violations.

 29. Borrowing books in another person’s name is strictly prohibited. Faculty members are not permitted to borrow

        books from other departments.

 30. All staff members must return library books before the closing date for summer vacation.

 31. Students must present their library cards, issued at the beginning of each session, to borrow books.

 

SPECIAL RULES FOR STUDENTS-

 1. Student borrowers must follow all rules stated in Section I.

 2. Late Return Fine: A fine of ₹1.00 per book per day will be charged for late returns, up to a maximum of ₹20.00 per

     book. On the 7th of every month, the librarian will issue a fine list for the previous month, specifying students with

     outstanding fines. The fine amount, not exceeding ₹1.00 per book per day, will be collected along with the student’s

     tuition fee for that month.

 3. Students must present their library card when borrowing or returning books.

 4. Summer Vacation Restrictions: Students are generally not allowed to keep books during summer vacation. If a

     student wishes to borrow books for summer vacation, they must apply to the Principal with a recommendation

     from a staff member.

 5. Library Card Replacement: If a student loses their library card, a replacement will be issued upon application and

      payment of ₹50.00.

 6. Overnight Borrowing: Only one book at a time may be borrowed for overnight home use. The book must be

      returned before 1:00 PM the next day.

 7. Lost Library Card: Any loss of a library card must be reported to the librarian immediately.

 8. Library Card Issuance: Library cards are issued to students only upon presentation of their identity card along with

      their admission receipt.

 9. Reading Room Rules: Each student is generally allowed to borrow one book or journal at a time for use in the

      reading room.

      Book & Journal Return Deadline: All books and journals must be returned to the librarian 15 minutes before the

      library closes for the day.

      Late Return Fine: If a student fails to return a book or journal on time, a fine of 0.50 paise per day per copy will be

      charged. The fine may go up to a maximum of double the cost of the book or journal.
